With 1.6 million Props network users and integration across multiple apps, the network is becoming increasingly decentralized. Moving forward, the team is exclusively focused on the token’s widespread developer adoption, creating a formal separation between Props PBC and the YouNow app

Camfrog launch results

We had quite the month here! We are thrilled to see the successful launch of Props on another app in the network. Camfrog integrated Props into its popular chat app, and its users can now earn Props through activity on the app, and use Props to unlock in-app benefits and attain a financial stake in the network.

Since Camfrog’s launch, PropsChain activity has nearly doubled to ~300K transactions / day:

Props tokens are currently held by 1.6M users across Props powered apps. Follow Props network activity on the PropsChain explorer.

A network of Props-powered apps

The launch of the second app on the network marks a key milestone in the expansion of the Props network. We started the Props Project in 2017, based on our experience running the YouNow video app and its digital currency economy for several years. Props and the YouNow video app were run as two separate operations under the same roof, with the expectation that the entities would formally separate once Props integration into YouNow is established and the Props network reached a sufficient level of maturity. We have reached that point.

The YouNow app was key to the Props network launch and the initial adoption of the Props token, and will continue to reward its community with an opportunity to earn a stake in the future of the network. The app serves as a showcase for Props’ ability to positively impact consumer app KPIs: with the integration of Props, YouNow grew its user engagement by 25% and dollar revenue by 43% (case study).

Today, the YouNow video app is only one of five Props apps (that have integrated or are in the process of integrating the Props token), some have a larger user base than YouNow. Moving forward, following the formal separation between the YouNow App entity and the Props operation, the Props team is focused exclusively on growing the Props token economy. The team will work with a wide variety of apps and act solely as a token propagator and shepherd of the Props network development.

A milestone on Props’ path to decentralization

This is another step on our path toward the decentralization of the Props network. As outlined from the early days of the project, we put in place the cornerstones of the network — developing the infrastructure and tooling, driving consumer usage via the YouNow app and getting early partner apps onto the network — while laying the foundation for eventual decentralization.

The Props-only focused operation will increase Props’ appeal to investors, as a “pure play” token that is not tied to any particular app, and level the ground for additional app developers on the network. Moreover, the separation further enables us to gradually move more responsibilities around governance and development to the Props network as a whole. Over the next 18 months we intend to open-source additional pieces of the Props code, and transition more of Props PBC’s responsibilities to the network. We anticipate that as more apps join the network, we’ll see more contributions to Props’ open-source code from developers within the participating apps.

We are excited for this next stage in the network’s development — we are one step closer to our vision of empowering users to participate in the wealth generated on the networks they help grow.
